Sr. Backend Engineers (Card Platform)

Role overview

Join a senior engineering team building the backend for a consumer card product. The role focuses on writing high-quality Kotlin or Python code, shaping system design, and partnering with product, analytics, and other engineering groups to execute the platform's roadmap. It is a hands-on individual-contributor position suited to someone who enjoys both implementation and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-moving payments environment.

Responsibilities

- Write production backend code in Kotlin or Python with a strong emphasis on quality, reliability, and maintainability - Contribute to system design and lead portions of implementation for new services and features - Collaborate with Product, Analytics, and engineering peers to set and execute strategy for the card platform - Build APIs and data models that fit cleanly into service-oriented and event-driven architectures - Extend core decisioning services with new risk and fraud-mitigation capabilities - Participate in on-call rotations, helping reduce toil and improve overall team efficiency

Requirements

- 6+ years of experience as a senior backend software engineer working in Python or Kotlin - Strong grasp of relational database best practices, including schema design and query performance - Solid understanding of distributed systems and how architectural choices affect scalability, performance, and maintainability - Excellent written and verbal communication, with comfort working asynchronously through tech specs, wikis, and project plans - Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to surface critical information clearly - Genuine interest in partnering with Product, Design, Analytics, and Business teams

Nice to have

- Experience with AWS or other major cloud providers - Prior exposure to card, payments, or transaction-processing systems such as card issuing, transaction processing, money movement, or ACH
