Forward Deployed Engineer, Industry Solutions

Role overview A hands-on forward-deployed engineering role embedded with independent software vendor partners to build production integrations on a modern, document-oriented database platform. The position involves designing migration paths from relational systems, writing production code, and traveling on-site with partners during key engagement phases. The role is remote and based in Toronto with significant regional travel.

Responsibilities - Embed with partner engineering teams, adapting to their codebase, practices, release cadence, and constraints - Design database-backed product capabilities including data models, indexes, queries, and persistence layers - Implement coexistence and migration solutions covering change data capture, dual writes, synchronization, and controlled cutover - Validate production readiness across performance, scalability, resilience, observability, and security dimensions - Enable partner engineers through collaborative development, code reviews, and knowledge sharing - Capture reusable implementation patterns and lessons learned to accelerate future engagements

Requirements - 5+ years of hands-on backend engineering experience building production applications - Strong application-side expertise with the database platform, including data modeling, indexing, transactions, and change streams - Application-level fluency with at least one major relational database - Experience integrating a new database into a large production codebase and migrating workloads - Strong coding ability in at least two of Java, C#/.NET, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, or Go - Comfort with unfamiliar codebases and the ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly - Willingness to travel and spend significant time on-site with partners

Nice to have - Experience working for or with software vendors, or in forward-deployed or embedded engineering roles - Familiarity with Kubernetes-based private clouds and self-managed environments - Background in SaaS product engineering including multi-tenancy and versioned schemas
