Sr. Backend Developer - e-commerce

Role overview A senior backend engineering role centered on an e-commerce stack built on Magento / Adobe Commerce, with supporting work on Shopify and a strong emphasis on AI-powered automation. The position blends hands-on module development, API design, and integration work with building practical workflows that connect existing tools and reduce manual effort across engineering and business processes.

Responsibilities - Own backend development from design through release, including custom Magento modules, complex troubleshooting, and platform-aligned best practices. - Build GraphQL capabilities for headless experiences and integrate internal and external systems via REST, GraphQL, webhooks, and asynchronous processing. - Identify repetitive engineering and business tasks and ship AI-driven automations that include validation, error handling, logging, and human review. - Strengthen testing and development workflows, contributing unit tests and quality checks that fit into build and release pipelines. - Support Shopify integrations, apps, webhook handlers, and Liquid customizations, plus scripts for migrations and recurring operational work. - Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, environment management, and deployments while mentoring peers and collaborating with frontend and QA teams.

Requirements - 5+ years of hands-on Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce and PHP experience, including custom module development, plugins, observers, dependency injection, service contracts, and EAV. - Practical GraphQL experience covering schema definitions and custom resolvers, with attention to authorization, error handling, and performance. - Experience building and maintaining REST and GraphQL integrations and webhook consumers, including retries, idempotency, rate limits, and queueing. - Demonstrated use of AI tools or large language model APIs to automate workflows, with awareness of cost, reliability, privacy, and validation. - Scripting ability in Python, Node.js, PHP, or similar, plus comfort with cloud CLIs, environment configuration, and basic CI/CD practices. - Strong Git collaboration skills and clear technical communication.

Nice to have - Experience building AI agents or multi-step AI workflows that interact with external tools and APIs. - Background moving AI automation prototypes into production and measuring accuracy, reliability, cost, and time savings. - Familiarity integrating automated tests and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines, including backend performance diagnosis.

Benefits and work setup - Fully remote role based in the United States.
