About this role
Role overview
Set the technical direction for a foundational data integration and ingestion platform that supports a data-intensive software product. This staff-level role owns architectural choices for onboarding sources, processing data reliably, and evolving batch and event-driven systems. You’ll work across engineering, product, and business groups, while mentoring engineers and driving platform improvements from early problem definition through delivery.
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and patterns for integrating external data sources and operating ingestion services at scale. - Set direction for batch and event-driven processing, including migration and build-versus-buy decisions. - Define and uphold standards for monitoring, data freshness, reliability, and failure handling. - Lead design across data engineering, infrastructure, and product teams to keep platform decisions aligned. - Mentor engineers through design reviews, technical guidance, and contributions to code and team practices. - Identify important platform gaps, make the case for addressing them, and drive solutions to completion.
Requirements
- 8+ years in software or data engineering, including substantial ownership of large-scale ingestion, ETL, or integration architecture. - Deep Python proficiency, strong SQL skills, and experience with a cloud data warehouse such as BigQuery. - Experience designing API-based ETL systems at scale, including REST, GraphQL, or webhooks and related authentication or multi-tenancy concerns. - Production experience with workflow orchestration such as Airflow and containerized infrastructure such as Docker or Kubernetes. - A record of setting technical direction, aligning engineers across teams, and improving engineering practices. - Experience mentoring engineers and judgment about balancing platform durability with timely delivery.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, API keys, secrets management, and secure multi-tenant design. - Experience integrating enterprise systems such as ERP, CRM, or CDP platforms. - Familiarity with real-time processing, data governance, compliance, or security for sensitive data. - Experience in multi-tenant SaaS or another large-scale, data-intensive environment.
