Magazine Designer

Role overview Design and produce editorial layouts for a weekly print magazine, shaping long-form stories through strong visual hierarchy and thoughtful composition. The role spans issue production from layout through print preparation, with occasional work adapting content and graphics for digital use.

Responsibilities - Design layouts for weekly feature stories and other magazine content. - Coordinate with editors, art direction, and photo teams to keep each issue moving through production and meet deadlines. - Maintain visual consistency across magazine content and related formats. - Prepare print-ready files that meet technical and editorial standards. - Adapt content and badge designs for digital or other formats, and create custom illustrations when needed.

Requirements - At least four years of magazine or editorial design experience; work in a fast-paced weekly or daily newsroom is relevant. - Strong command of publication layout, grid systems, visual hierarchy, and page composition. - Advanced Adobe InDesign skills, including paragraph and character styles and tables for long lists; proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator. - Ability to manage multiple pages, deadlines, and collaborators under pressure. - A portfolio demonstrating editorial design and layout, plus excellent spoken and written English. - Flexibility in working hours and familiarity with AI design tools.

Nice to have - Experience commissioning or directing editorial visuals. - Familiarity with Figma, Canva, or PowerPoint.
