UI/UX Designer (12 mos. Contract)
Job details
About this role
Role overview A 12-month contract role for a UI/UX designer to own digital design work end to end on the direct-to-consumer side of a consumer technology brand's web storefront. The seat focuses on transactional ecommerce with real conversion pressure, working inside an established atomic design system rather than from a blank canvas, and partnering with a Creative Lead, a graphic designer, and front-end engineers.
Responsibilities - Design and ship UI for campaign and product landing pages, category and listing pages, product detail pages, media and content pages, and product finder tools, from wireframe through to developer-ready handoff. - Build with existing components in an atomic design system, extend it where the system does not yet meet a page's needs, and keep new work coherent with what is already there. - Maintain web Figma libraries, keeping components, variants, and tokens clean, documented, and usable across the team. - Work closely with the front-end team on handoff, feasibility checks, and staging reviews before work goes live. - Use website analytics and consumer insights research as inputs to design decisions, and explain the reasoning behind those decisions. - Design new web components, suggest improvements to existing pages, and collaborate with the graphic designer to keep campaign work and site experience visually aligned. - Coordinate with senior marketing leadership on global campaign alignment, and provide occasional advisory direction to other teams maintaining their own pages. - Partner with the separate app product team to keep web and app styles, icons, colours, and typography consistent.
Requirements - 4+ years designing digital products or marketing interfaces; direct-to-consumer ecommerce or consumer tech experience is a plus. - Deep Figma skills, including components, variants, auto layout, and tokens, with comfort maintaining system structure and documentation. - Genuine, hands-on interest in AI, particularly AI capabilities landing in Figma, with a habit of testing new tools rather than just reading about them. - Portfolio of shipped web work showing reasoning behind the designs, not only final screens. - Current on UI patterns and conventions, with judgment about which trends are worth adopting. - Able to ground decisions in research and analytics and present work directly to stakeholders, handling pushback in the room. - Working understanding of front-end implementation and how to design system components a back-end team can actually build.
Nice to have - Prototyping and interaction design skills. - Familiarity with accessibility standards and how they shape component design.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote within Canada, with West Coast or PST working hours preferred. - Short review cycles over long agency-style handoffs, with direct access to the Creative Lead and partner teams. - Tooling provided, including Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, and an AI imagery seat, plus support for training on new tools, particularly AI.
