Staff Software Engineer, Tech Lead - NetBox Delivery
Job details
About this role
Role overview Lead the technical direction of a team responsible for delivering, upgrading, and operating software across hosted and self-managed environments. This is a hands-on staff-level role: you will build delivery tooling, improve production reliability, and coordinate technical changes with teams working on the core product and its infrastructure.
Responsibilities - Design and develop installation, upgrade, and runtime components such as Kubernetes operators, controllers, APIs, and release tools. - Improve application and plugin performance and reliability, including startup behavior and database queries. - Establish practices for observability, testing, documentation, and service-level objectives. - Set architecture and delivery direction, and mentor engineers through technical guidance, design discussions, and code review. - Coordinate release agreements and cross-team changes through written proposals and implementation work. - Serve as a technical escalation point during incidents and drive follow-up actions from postmortems.
Requirements - At least 7 years of software development experience, including technical ownership of a production system or platform area. - Strong Python skills and experience with production SaaS applications; familiarity with Django and PostgreSQL is preferred. - Experience building on Kubernetes, with knowledge of operators or controllers, reconciliation loops, custom resources, and the Kubernetes API. - Experience implementing application observability, including error reporting, tracing, metrics, and structured logs. - Hands-on experience with several tools such as AWS, Kubernetes and Helm, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD or FluxCD, Terraform, Prometheus, and Grafana. - Experience mentoring and leading engineering work without formal management authority, using AI-augmented development tools responsibly, and driving decisions across team boundaries.
Nice to have - Rust or Go experience; large-scale Django and PostgreSQL work, including schema design, migrations, and query tuning. - Familiarity with network automation, open source, self-managed software delivery, container builds, or software supply-chain security. - Experience in a B2B software startup or high-growth environment.
