Technical Director

Role overview Set technical direction and lead delivery across multiple complex software projects, connecting client goals with architecture and execution. The role combines senior client advisory, hands-on technical judgment, team development and financial oversight to support successful, sustainable outcomes.

Responsibilities - Define technical vision and guide architecture, engineering practices and critical design decisions across projects. - Lead discovery and advisory discussions with senior client stakeholders, translating business objectives into technical strategies and solution proposals. - Oversee delivery quality, scalability and maintainability; track project health, address risks and steer work toward agreed outcomes. - Build and mentor senior teams, support staffing decisions and encourage technical excellence and innovation. - Monitor project financials and resource use, and identify opportunities to grow client work. - Contribute to the wider engineering community through activities such as open-source work, writing, speaking or mentoring.

Requirements - 15 or more years of technical leadership experience, ideally in consulting, SaaS or large digital transformation work. - Deep knowledge of software architecture, cloud platforms and modern development practices. - Experience guiding technical decisions on complex, high-impact projects and leading solution design or discovery. - Practical experience with AI, databases, distributed systems and contemporary software engineering. - Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and align technology choices with business needs. - Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, team leadership and mentoring skills.

Nice to have - Experience working remotely with globally distributed teams, overseeing technology project finances, contributing to open source or sharing technical expertise publicly. - Exposure to AI-driven solutions and emerging technologies.
