Senior Software Engineer - Commercial Services

Role overview Lead the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of a critical backend microservice that powers commercial operations for a healthcare technology company. The role combines deep Java and Spring Boot work with mentoring, technical decision-making, and collaboration across product, QA, and engineering teams.

Responsibilities - Lead design and technical implementation decisions for highly available backend services that support order processing and integrations. - Mentor engineers, perform code reviews, and drive adoption of engineering best practices including AI-assisted tooling. - Partner with product managers to gather requirements, walk through designs with stakeholders, and support software from ideation through release and maintenance. - Champion quality initiatives and collaborate with QA engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle. - Build and operate event-driven, microservice-based systems on AWS, using services such as EC2, ECS, Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, SNS, and S3.

Requirements - 7+ years of software development experience focused on secure, scalable backend services with Java and Spring Boot. - Strong background in event-driven architecture and message processing using Apache Kafka. - Experience mentoring engineers, driving technical best practices, and partnering with remote, hybrid, and offshore teams. - Hands-on experience with the full SDLC, including build, configuration, release, and deployment processes. - Deep familiarity with Test-Driven Development and/or Domain-Driven Development. - Working knowledge of AWS infrastructure, GraphQL API design in Java, relational database design and optimization, and microservice architecture.

Nice to have - Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform and CloudFormation, plus Docker or container tooling. - CI/CD experience with GitLab and familiarity with AI development tools such as AI assistants and MCPs. - SQL and NoSQL experience across MySQL, Elasticsearch, and DynamoDB, plus testing frameworks like JUnit and Mockito.
