About this role

Role overview Join the charting team of a fast-growing open-source UI library company and help shape a charting component that aims to become a standard in the React ecosystem. The work centers on building ambitious, complex features, solving strategic product problems, and driving adoption of an open-core charting library. Expect deep collaboration with a remote, async-first team that values radical transparency and self-directed execution.

Responsibilities - Guide architectural decisions by contributing to public RFCs, issues, and design discussions that shape the long-term direction of the charting library. - Lead deep, meaningful refactors and feature releases, drawing on the months-long careful work required to ship production-grade components. - Reduce friction for users through thoughtful API design, fixing high-impact bugs, clearer error messages, and high-quality documentation and blog content. - Collaborate with an active open-source community by reviewing issues and pull requests and inspiring external contributors. - Scope and stage work into well-defined milestones rather than monolithic deliverables, shipping iteratively. - Experiment with rendering approaches, including SVG and canvas APIs that differ from typical HTML/CSS workflows, to improve performance and feature parity with competing libraries.

Requirements - Production experience shipping React code within a team, with a strong focus on tested, performant, and high-quality output. - Clear written and verbal communication skills, comfortable engaging directly and indirectly with community members and enterprise customers. - Ability to quickly assess, understand, and iterate on a complex existing codebase. - Willingness to ask questions when uncertain and to help teammates, embracing continuous learning. - Familiarity with, or genuine curiosity about, non-DOM drawing technologies such as SVG and canvas. - Background in front-end infrastructure, such as building a design system, authoring a Babel plugin, or developing complex React components.

Nice to have - Prior experience building chart libraries, integrating charts into a design system, or shipping chart-heavy applications with strong accessibility. - Experience contributing to an enterprise-grade component library or internal design system. - A track record of maintaining highly active repositories, whether open-source or internal, with multi-team contributions. - Prior code contributions to the company's open-source projects.

Benefits and work setup - Fully remote position with a strong preference for candidates in the UTC-6 to UTC+5 range. - Asynchronous-first culture with written communication prioritized over meetings. - Flexible employment structure available as either contractor or employee, depending on circumstances. - Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and location, with top market rates considered for exceptional candidates. Additional perks are outlined on the careers page.
