Staff Product Engineer, Enterprise AI

Role overview A staff-level product engineer is needed to drive AI capabilities for enterprise customers within a privacy-focused, open-source communication and productivity portfolio used by more than 20 million people globally. The work sits on a small distributed team building independent, transparent alternatives to mainstream tech ecosystems, with a revenue model that blends user donations and paid services. Scope spans desktop, mobile, paid offerings, and new AI features for enterprise use cases.

Responsibilities - Lead design and delivery of AI-powered features aimed at enterprise customers - Shape the technical direction of AI offerings within the broader product portfolio - Collaborate with a globally distributed open-source contributor community - Balance strong privacy commitments with the practical demands of enterprise buyers - Mentor peers and contribute to engineering practices across the team - Partner with product and design to translate enterprise needs into shipped software

Requirements - Significant experience building production AI or machine-learning products at staff level - Strong software engineering background that extends beyond modeling to full systems - Track record working on user-facing products where privacy, trust, or data control matter - Comfort with open, transparent development practices and community contribution - Excellent collaboration skills across remote, distributed teams
