Role overview
A senior software engineer is needed to mature and extend an internal developer infrastructure platform at a mission-driven, open-source software organization. The work centers on standardized, scalable systems for CI/CD, observability, Kubernetes optimization, environment bootstrapping, and cost optimization. The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, including shaping agentic workflows that boost developer productivity.
Responsibilities
- Support the infrastructure that development teams use to own and operate their services - Guide technical decision-making and adoption of user-centric solutions - Design and build agentic workflows and skills that improve developer productivity - Mentor team members and promote engineering best practices focused on usability and maintainability - Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to deliver a cohesive platform - Author proposals and decision briefs for new policies, processes, and platform functionality - Build new platform features with clear value propositions - Resolve unclear but urgent tasks independently
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with depth in platform engineering, cloud engineering, SRE, or DevOps - Demonstrated technical leadership experience - Proficiency with several of: ArgoCD, Grafana, Kubernetes, GitHub, Terraform, Helm, Backstage, cloud cost optimization - Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or Go - Strong cloud-native expertise, preferably on GCP, with AWS also acceptable - Excellent communication skills and ability to align technology with user and organizational needs - Self-starter who thrives in ambiguity, with curiosity and a commitment to inclusive, responsible work
Nice to have
- Experience with distributed systems architecture and design - Knowledge of cloud security and governance principles - Experience designing agentic workflows - Database expertise - Experience building internal developer platforms
