Remote job
Senior Platform Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior platform engineering role on the infrastructure team behind a real-time payments API that moves money at scale for fintech, banking, and marketplace customers. The position owns meaningful infrastructure surface area, including Terraform migrations, CI/CD hardening, and observability foundations, partnering directly with product engineers rather than operating behind layers of process.
Responsibilities
- Own core platform infrastructure work, including a Terraform migration across VPC, IAM, and networking, plus CI/CD pipelines and environment provisioning. - Build and maintain internal tooling and abstractions that let product engineers ship and operate code without solving infrastructure problems from scratch. - Advance the observability foundation through service instrumentation, metrics collection pipelines, standardized monitoring, alerting, and synthetic checks. - Harden CI/CD through secrets migration and self-service deployment tooling. - Support GCP infrastructure scaling, including reliability work on messaging systems and dead-letter queue handling. - Help build compliance remediation tooling, local development and onboarding tooling, GCP cost visibility, and infrastructure architecture documentation. - Operate independently on production infrastructure changes within a scoped, execution-focused backlog.
Requirements
- 5+ years in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or backend engineering with significant infrastructure ownership. - Experience building or substantially maturing internal developer tooling, CI/CD systems, or service platforms from a less mature baseline. - Background operating in startup or small-team environments where infrastructure ownership is broad. - Direct production experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred; AWS or Azure also relevant) and infrastructure-as-code. - Track record partnering closely with product engineering teams to unblock delivery. - Strong proficiency with Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, or comparable IaC tools. - Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS, or similar) and building CI/CD pipelines from scratch. - Solid backend skills in at least one production language such as Go, Python, or TypeScript/Node. - Familiarity with observability tooling such as Datadog, Grafana/Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry. - Understanding of secrets management, access control, and secure-by-default infrastructure patterns. - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to have
- Prior experience in fintech, payments, banking-as-a-service, or another regulated industry. - Experience building platform tooling that supports compliance requirements such as audit logging, data retention, and access controls. - Cross-cloud infrastructure experience spanning GCP and AWS, or GCP-specific depth. - Familiarity with database platform work including provisioning, migration tooling, and backup/replication strategy. - Experience scaling internal platforms through rapid engineering or transaction growth.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first culture with flexible working arrangements; hiring limited to within the United States. - Competitive compensation with equity in a growing fintech company. - Small team environment with direct influence on infrastructure outcomes and professional growth opportunities in compliance and risk management.
