Role overview

A senior leadership role overseeing portfolio planning, governance, performance management, and cross-organizational execution for a mission-driven constellation of companies and nonprofit entities. The Director acts as a hands-on operator who brings structure to complexity, translates portfolio priorities into clear plans, and equips leaders with the forums, information, and operating rhythms needed for sound decision-making. The position reports to the COO and supports long-term stewardship of a multi-entity organization that blends philanthropic mission impact with disciplined business operations.

Responsibilities

- Lead the portfolio planning cycle, integrating organizational strategies, operating plans, capital requirements, and double-bottom-line goal-setting across portfolio entities. - Design and maintain portfolio-level dashboards, scorecards, and reporting architecture that surface priorities, performance, risks, and dependencies. - Partner with Finance and operating leaders to connect strategic priorities, operating plans, and resource allocation decisions. - Develop comparative analyses, benchmarks, and portfolio insights, and synthesize information into recommendations and decision points for senior leadership. - Maintain and evolve operating frameworks, decision rights, authority matrices, and playbooks that clarify how the parent organization and portfolio entities interact. - Lead or coordinate high-priority initiatives that span multiple portfolio organizations, including workstream design, ownership, milestones, dependency mapping, and delivery cadences. - Surface execution gaps and risks early, partnering with leaders to resolve them while keeping processes lightweight and accountable.

Requirements

- 10+ years of experience in a multi-entity holding company, investment management, private equity, venture capital, or development finance setting. - Prior experience at the portfolio level, with a background in strategy, business operations, portfolio operations, or strategic program management. - Strong connection to the organization's mission of advancing an open, people-serving internet, with interest in combining mission impact with operational and financial discipline. - Familiarity with board governance and capital allocation processes. - Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skill, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations and actions. - Experience managing qualitative and quantitative metrics, dashboards, and systems-thinking outputs, plus a track record of leading significant cross-functional initiatives with senior stakeholders.

Benefits and work setup
