Staff Product Engineer, Enterprise AI

Role overview This Staff-level product engineering position drives the development of enterprise-facing AI capabilities within a privacy-respecting, open-source communication and productivity platform. The team is a small, distributed group (around 65 people across seven countries) supporting more than 20 million users, and is now expanding beyond email into desktop, mobile, paid services, and AI-powered offerings. The role sits at the intersection of product engineering and applied AI for enterprise customers.

Responsibilities - Lead the design, build, and shipping of AI features tailored to enterprise customers of an open-source email and productivity suite. - Drive end-to-end product engineering across the stack, from technical architecture through delivery and iteration. - Collaborate with a globally distributed open-source community to develop transparently and incorporate external contributions. - Shape enterprise-facing extensions of the platform alongside desktop, mobile, paid services, and AI offerings. - Mentor teammates and contribute to engineering practices that keep a small team productive across multiple time zones.

Nice to have - Prior experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects at scale. - Background building AI-powered features inside productivity, email, or communications products. - Familiarity with open, privacy-first development philosophies and user-controlled data models.
