Head of Applied AI Engineering

Role overview A senior technical leader is sought to take ownership of a growing production AI platform, spanning agentic systems, evaluation strategy, safety, model strategy, and engineering standards. The role combines hands-on coding with broad technical leadership across the engineering organization, focusing on agentic systems that reason across complex workflows, manage context, use tools, and take consequential actions under real production constraints.

Responsibilities - Design and evolve the shared platform used to build production AI agents across multiple product areas. - Define reusable foundations covering agent orchestration, context construction, retrieval, memory, tool execution, state management, structured workflows, safety controls, human escalation, evaluation, observability, and model access and routing. - Serve as the senior technical owner for existing production agent systems and help teams build new capabilities on top of the shared platform. - Identify which capabilities should be extracted into reusable platform primitives and improve the current architecture. - Establish how the organization measures whether an AI system is actually improving, combining deterministic checks with curated evaluation approaches. - Define engineering standards and technical direction for the next stage of platform growth.

Requirements - Proven track record building and operating sophisticated AI systems in production. - Hands-on engineering depth with the ability to remain close to the code while leading. - Experience designing agentic systems that integrate retrieval, memory, tool use, and state management. - Comfort reasoning about systems where AI can take consequential actions, not just generate text. - Strong ability to set architecture, engineering standards, and technical direction across teams.
