Job details
About this role
Role overview A digital bank is hiring a Staff Analytics Engineer for its Borrowing domain, which spans 12+ lending products across multiple geographies and is backed by 1,700+ data models. The role reports to the Borrowing Data Director and focuses on shaping the analytics architecture, data products, and feature layers that power credit decisions, risk modelling, and regulatory reporting. It is a senior, cross-functional position partnering with product, credit, engineering, and the central data platform to turn a sprawling data estate into a coherent, production-grade system.
Responsibilities - Architect the Borrowing data layer with analytics engineering, product, engineering, credit, and platform teams, setting shared patterns for how 1,700+ models are structured, connected, and evolved. - Design and govern contractual data products with clear ownership, SLAs, documentation, and interfaces serving analytics, machine learning, decisioning, and regulatory consumers. - Build feature stores and reusable analytical assets by identifying cross-product signals such as credit behaviour, repayment patterns, affordability, and risk indicators. - Shape tooling, patterns, and developer experience for an 80+ person credit and data organisation, partnering with the central data platform on ingestion, streaming, and schema contract design. - Drive cross-product data consistency across geographies, defining shared conventions so the business can reason about Borrowing as a whole rather than product by product. - Act as senior technical partner on source data payload design, measurement strategy, and decisioning data for credit teams.
Requirements - Significant senior-level experience as an analytics engineer or in a comparable role working with large-scale data architectures. - Deep SQL expertise and a track record of turning ad-hoc tables into well-defined, versioned, production-grade data assets. - Proven ability to lead through influence: setting patterns, reviewing designs, unblocking teams, and raising standards across many engineers. - Strong cross-functional communication, able to whiteboard data architecture with back-end engineers in the morning and present a strategic roadmap to directors in the afternoon. - Broad understanding of how product, credit, engineering, and operational teams consume data, with judgement to align people around better technical choices. - Genuine curiosity about credit products, including lending risk, affordability, regulatory constraints, and multi-product dynamics.
Nice to have - Hands-on experience with feature stores, data contracts, and modern data tooling such as dbt, Airflow, or streaming frameworks. - Background in financial services, lending, or another regulated data environment.
Benefits and work setup - Salary of £121,600 to £164,600 plus performance-tied incentive awards and a standard benefits package. - London, Cardiff, or remote within the UK, with ad hoc travel to London expected for in-person collaboration. - Flexible working hours and autonomy to manage your schedule around team needs. - Annual £1,000 learning budget for books, training courses, and conferences. - Visa sponsorship and relocation support available for candidates moving to the UK. - Interview process runs around 3-4 weeks, with a recruiter call, an initial call, and three one-hour final-round sessions.
