Role overview The Senior User Research Manager leads research strategy for a major consumer banking product portfolio spanning current accounts, joint accounts, youth and kids' accounts, money management, budgeting, and subscription offerings. The role combines people leadership of a team of senior researchers with strategic influence at executive level, helping shape product direction across multiple interconnected financial service areas. It is a senior manager-of-managers position focused on connecting customer insights across business lines to inform high-stakes decisions.
Responsibilities - Lead end-to-end research across a core banking product portfolio while contributing to a broader personal banking research strategy spanning multiple product areas - Partner with product, design, engineering, and data science leadership to influence roadmaps, business strategy, and organisational priorities - Help shape and land a global research operating model as the organisation expands internationally, balancing global consistency with local market needs - Synthesise qualitative research, product data, quantitative signals, and market insights into coherent strategic narratives for senior stakeholders - Manage and coach a team of approximately 6-8 direct and indirect reports, maintaining a high bar for research quality and methodological rigour - Identify themes, opportunities, and gaps across research collectives rather than operating within a single product team
Requirements - Demonstrated experience leading senior researchers and research managers within complex product organisations - Track record of shaping product strategy through research at organisational and executive level - Experience working across multiple product areas and bringing together disparate customer insights - Comfort navigating complex stakeholder environments with competing priorities, metrics, and timelines - Ability to combine qualitative research with quantitative signals, product data, and market insights into strategic recommendations - Experience coaching research leaders while maintaining quality standards across multiple teams
