This senior leadership role anchors the machine learning function inside the borrowing division of a digital-first bank, guiding how credit decisions are made across lending products. The position blends strategic roadmap ownership with people leadership, shaping ML capability for UK growth, new customer segments, and European market expansion. The scope spans underwriting, pricing, credit limits, and lifecycle decisioning across personal loans, flexible credit, and overdrafts.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end ML roadmap covering UK optimisation, emerging customer segments, and European market entry - Recruit, lead, and develop a team of senior ML scientists working on credit decisioning systems - Accelerate model iteration through expanded data sources, stronger feature engineering, and improved shipping tooling - Advance the use of open banking, transaction intelligence, and third-party data inside credit models - Partner with credit strategy, product, engineering, model validation, and platform leadership - Raise the bar on model quality, governance practices, and speed of delivery
Requirements
- Deep, hands-on experience in credit risk and lending, including production deployment of credit models - Strong command of machine learning, statistics, and automated decisioning systems - Proven track record leading and developing senior ML scientists - Demonstrated cross-functional leadership with product, credit strategy, engineering, and validation teams - History of translating strategy into measurable delivery within a regulated environment - Track record of pushing innovation boundaries within the credit industry

- Experience operating credit models across more than one geographic market - Familiarity with advanced ML methods and AI applied to structured financial data
