Remote job
Android Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A digital bank is hiring a product-focused Android engineer to evolve a consumer mobile app used daily by millions. The role sits within a large mobile engineering community, working inside small autonomous squads that own business outcomes end-to-end rather than isolated features. The position is based in London with flexibility for UK-remote work.
Responsibilities
- Build polished native Android experiences using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, MVVM with Coordinators, Coroutines, Retrofit, Moshi, Dagger, and Room. - Collaborate in cross-functional squads alongside iOS, backend, design, research, QA, and data colleagues to deliver against a shared company goal. - Write unit tests for ViewModels, Coordinators, and logic-bearing classes, plus snapshot and Espresso flow tests integrated into continuous integration. - Participate in a weekly Android discipline to share tools, troubleshoot cross-team issues, and improve the shared codebase. - Contribute to a small mobile platform squad that enables the wider engineering organisation to ship faster. - Engage in code review via pull requests and pair on architectural decisions as the app migrates toward newer libraries.
Requirements
- Professional experience building production Android apps with Kotlin and modern UI frameworks. - Comfort balancing well-tested, resilient code with rapid iteration in a product-led environment. - Ability to write and maintain tests for UI components and business logic. - Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset across disciplines. - Self-direction suited to small team ownership, with willingness to learn from a varied engineering community.
Nice to have
- Exposure to dependency injection migrations, Kotlinx Serialisation, modularisation patterns, or large-scale consumer apps. - Interest in banking, fintech, or other regulated product domains.
Benefits and work setup
- Base salary range of roughly £85,000–£110,000 plus share options, with a latest-spec laptop provided. - London office with distributed UK working supported, including travel cost assistance for occasional office days. - Flexible hours, a £1,000 annual learning budget, visa sponsorship, and relocation support to the UK.
