Staff Software Engineer: Growth Engineering

Role overview

This Staff Software Engineer role sits on a Growth Engineering team that builds the reliable, configurable systems powering scalable client launches and secure member access to a global mental health benefits platform. The work spans eligibility processing, identity and access management, client configuration tooling, and reporting platform support—essentially the engineering foundation for onboarding, authentication, and technical access across every client and member. The position calls for an experienced full-stack engineer with a backend lean who can take high ownership of cross-domain projects.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain GraphQL APIs powered by Python services, while also shipping web and mobile experiences using React and React Native - Develop reusable, efficient systems that drive complex client-facing applications and integrate with a broader care journey - Uphold HIPAA and GDPR compliance along with general security best practices across backend and frontend surfaces - Independently author technical plans (tech specs/RFCs) for large, ambiguous, cross-domain initiatives, negotiating scope with product partners - Lead and contribute to cross-team engineering forums, mentor other engineers, and provide thoughtful code and design reviews - Participate in on-call rotation, driving investigation, remediation, and process improvements from recurring incidents

Requirements - 8+ years of relevant software development experience in general-purpose programming languages - 2+ years of production full-stack experience including Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, React Native, and React - Deep familiarity with comparable production stacks (Python/Django/Flask, GraphQL or REST, PostgreSQL, Docker, AWS) - Proven high ownership: ability to decompose ambiguous problems, propose elegant strategies, and deliver against estimates - Experience writing technical plans that hold up under cross-functional scrutiny and driving initiatives spanning multiple domains - Strong written and verbal communication, with a track record of mentoring engineers and aligning stakeholders across teams

- Authorization protocol experience (SSO/SAML, OIDC, JWT) - AI/LLM-powered product features such as recommendation systems or conversational experiences - Practical use of AI in the development lifecycle to improve quality and speed - SQL, bash, or scripting for debugging and developer-experience improvements - High-growth startup or health-tech or HR-tech background

Benefits and work setup

The role is fully remote, with US-based team members expected to maintain overlap hours including at least six hours between 8 am and 5 pm Pacific time.
