Senior Fullstack Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview A senior fullstack engineering role on a fast-growing mortgage technology platform, partnering closely with founders and the CTO to ship production features end to end. The work spans Ruby on Rails services, TypeScript and Node services, a GraphQL gateway, and React frontends, with a strong emphasis on backend systems and third-party integrations in a regulated domain.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain features across Rails APIs, TypeScript and Node services, a GraphQL gateway, and React frontends. - Own integrations with external platforms such as loan origination systems, mortgage insurance providers, and document or e-sign vendors, including mapping, sync, reconciliation, retries, and idempotency. - Design asynchronous, multi-step workflows using message queues, background jobs, and saga-style orchestration, keeping a multi-tenant platform correct and secure. - Lead technical design for significant features through design docs and architecture decision records, then hold a high bar in code review. - Join the on-call rotation, lead incident response, run blameless postmortems, and partner with customer support on lender-reported escalations. - Use AI and agentic coding tools daily to plan, implement, test, debug, and review, while building shared AI tooling and guardrails for the team.
Requirements - 7+ years building and running production web applications, taking problems from vague description to shipped, monitored solutions. - Deep Ruby on Rails experience, including API-only services, ActiveRecord, PostgreSQL, background jobs, and RSpec. - Comfort shipping UI with React and TypeScript, plus working knowledge of GraphQL on server and client (Apollo experience a plus). - Experience with distributed, event-driven systems, debugging cross-service failures, and handling third-party integrations that are slow, inconsistent, or poorly documented. - Advanced daily use of AI and agentic coding tools, with instincts for multi-tenant data isolation, security, and handling sensitive financial information. - Strong communication skills, including writing design docs, explaining incidents to non-engineers, and disagreeing productively with product managers.
Nice to have - Background in mortgage technology or another regulated, integration-heavy domain (fintech, lending, insurance, payments, healthcare). - Familiarity with LOS platforms, MISMO standards, Node.js and TypeScript services, Elasticsearch, Redis, Docker, AWS, CI/CD, saga or workflow orchestration patterns. - Mentoring engineers and leading cross-team initiatives.
Benefits and work setup - Flexible work approach with the option to work from home, an office, or while traveling. - PTO as needed, comprehensive insurance coverage, 401(k) match, stock option grants, and a stock purchase plan, with broad employee ownership.
