About this role
Role overview Lead the geometry methods and research that enable an AI system to turn design intent into manufacturable CAD. The work spans exact, implicit, and mesh representations, simulation, and analysis tooling, with outcomes verified against real manufacturing needs such as printing, machining, and assembly.
Responsibilities - Develop methods that generate manufacturable geometry from intent across B-rep, implicit, and mesh representations. - Integrate meshing, finite-element analysis, and physics based verification into geometry generation, using results to improve designs. - Build scalable tools to inspect and characterize CAD and mesh files, including feature and tolerance extraction, manufacturability checks, and mesh repair. - Handle geometry interchange and assembly concerns across STEP, IGES, 3MF, and mesh formats, including joints, motion, and collision. - Research and prototype geometry techniques, then recommend priorities for the roadmap. - Set shared standards for tolerance, performance, and correctness.
Requirements - At least six years in computational geometry, CAD kernel, or geometry processing development, with demonstrable work. - Deep B-rep kernel experience, including kernel internals and the underlying mathematics. - Knowledge of implicit modeling and signed distance fields, and conversion among implicit, B-rep, and mesh forms. - Strong mesh geometry skills, including boolean operations, watertight repair, remeshing, collision, and robust predicates. - Experience with finite-element or comparable physics based verification, analysis meshing, and solver integration. - Python and C++ skills, plus shipped geometry software or published geometry research.
Nice to have - Topology optimization, physics driven generative design, Rust, feature history systems, constraint solvers, manufacturing process knowledge, GPU or differentiable geometry, or open source geometry contributions.
Benefits and work setup - Remote within the United States, with occasional travel to Detroit. - Base pay of $170,000–$220,000, equity with four-year vesting and a one-year cliff, and health, dental, and vision coverage. - US work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is unavailable. The work may involve data subject to export-control requirements.
