Data Strategist

Role overview A global design and engineering consultancy is growing its Data & AI team and looking to connect with Data Strategists for future opportunities. The position sits at the intersection of business strategy, data platforms, and emerging AI/ML capabilities, helping organizations translate ambiguous ambitions into technically grounded transformation roadmaps. The team partners with clients across healthcare, financial services, retail, automotive, aviation, and professional services, with up to 15% travel expected for team and client engagements.

Responsibilities - Partner with multidisciplinary teams to plan and run business strategy activities that inform product direction, adapting frameworks to each client's context. - Identify high-value opportunities where data, machine learning, and AI can drive measurable business outcomes, refining them into well-defined use cases. - Assess the current-state data and technology landscape, including how data is captured, stored, governed, and consumed across enterprise systems. - Maintain expertise across ML and AI paradigms—from classical models to generative and agentic systems—to evaluate feasibility and fit for proposed solutions. - Develop data, AI, and technology strategies that link near-term initiatives to durable organizational capabilities. - Build current-state and future-state capability maps, dependency maps, and transformation roadmaps; design experiments, prototypes, and proof-of-concepts to reduce uncertainty before major investment. - Translate technical concepts and architectural tradeoffs for executive audiences while conveying business objectives and constraints to technical teams.

Requirements - Experience in business strategy, digital transformation, product strategy, technology strategy, or a closely related discipline. - Hands-on experience evaluating AI applications, surfacing risks, and identifying improvement opportunities. - Strong grasp of how modern data systems support business processes, analytics, and AI workloads. - Working knowledge of machine learning concepts and the ML development lifecycle. - Ability to prototype functional solutions with working code (e.g., Python, JavaScript) and integrate systems, with technical fluency beyond pure strategy work. - Proven ability to evaluate technical proposals and collaborate directly with engineers, data scientists, architects, product managers, and senior business leaders. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure ambiguous problems into actionable strategies. - Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills across executive, business, and technical audiences; comfort operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
