Operations Research Analyst III

Role overview

A senior operations research position providing technical and analytical support across the full lifecycle of U.S. Navy electromagnetic warfare, decoy, and Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (SEWIP) systems. The role integrates logistics, data science, reliability and maintainability engineering, and operations research to model complex systems, improve operational availability, and inform data-driven decisions. Work spans engineering, technology transition, installation, sustainment, maintenance, and test and evaluation for a high-stakes defense mission.

Responsibilities

- Apply mathematical, scientific, engineering, and analytical methods to evaluate operational and organizational challenges. - Analyze how personnel, funding, materials, and equipment are used and recommend reallocations to improve performance. - Support strategic planning, forecasting, scheduling, and performance measurement activities. - Gather, validate, and analyze large, complex datasets to drive data-informed recommendations. - Select and apply techniques such as simulation, linear and nonlinear programming, dynamic programming, queuing models, stochastic-process models, and analytic hierarchy processes. - Develop mathematical and analytical models representing complex systems, processes, and operational environments. - Run what-if analyses to assess how changes in resources, requirements, or constraints affect system performance. - Analyze supply chain, transportation, distribution, and logistics processes for efficiencies, risks, and improvements. - Build and evaluate alternative courses of action to support planning and resource management decisions. - Translate analytical results into clear reports, visualizations, and decision-support products for technical and program leadership.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline. - Minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience. - Active Secret security clearance. - Demonstrated experience applying operations research techniques to complex defense or government systems. - Strong skills in modeling, simulation, and quantitative analysis. - Ability to communicate analytical results clearly to technical and leadership audiences.
