Staff Software Engineer, AI/ML

Role overview A Staff-level engineering position focused on designing, building, and deploying AI-powered product experiences in a healthcare context. The role operates at the intersection of applied machine learning, platform engineering, and product, translating rich clinical and operational data into intelligent workflows for both members and providers. It is a hybrid opportunity based out of a New York metro area office, with additional remote support across other major US hub cities.

Responsibilities - Design and ship end-to-end AI features that combine large language models with retrieval, multi-call prompting, and agent-based orchestration patterns. - Partner closely with product, data, and engineering counterparts to convert healthcare data into insights and automated workflows embedded in the care journey. - Build and maintain ML pipelines and platform components that support experimentation, fine-tuning, and full training runs from scratch when warranted. - Take models from research notebooks through to reliable production deployment, including evaluation, monitoring, and iteration. - Apply modern orchestration techniques such as retrieval-augmented generation and multi-step agent frameworks to power member- and provider-facing experiences.

Requirements - Significant experience operating as a Staff engineer on machine learning or AI systems in production. - Hands-on work with large language model APIs (for example, OpenAI or Gemini-style providers) and the surrounding orchestration tooling. - Practical knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation, prompt engineering, agent frameworks, and related patterns for building intelligent product features. - Strong engineering fundamentals in building robust pipelines, platform services, and deployable ML infrastructure. - Track record of cross-functional collaboration with product, data, and engineering stakeholders.

Nice to have - Familiarity with model fine-tuning, training-from-scratch workflows, and evaluation methodologies for generative AI systems. - Experience applying AI in healthcare, clinical, or other regulated domains where data quality and safety matter.
