Principal Data Architect

Role overview Lead the design and delivery of data architectures for customer analytics and engagement use cases. The role combines hands-on pipeline and model development with technical leadership, client consultation, and coordination across data, analytics, CRM, and customer data platform teams.

Responsibilities - Design and maintain scalable batch and real-time ETL/ELT pipelines that bring together cloud, warehouse, and external data sources. - Build and tune data models, transformations, and workflows using SQL, Python, and dbt. - Improve performance, reliability, data quality, and cost through monitoring, validation, testing, and optimization. - Translate customer engagement needs—including events, user attributes, identity resolution, and synchronization—into usable data solutions. - Advise stakeholders on architecture and delivery, document technical designs, and estimate implementation phases. - Guide engineers, coordinate across teams and client projects, and identify useful automation or emerging technology.

Requirements - At least five years in data engineering, data platforms, or a related technical role, with ownership of architecture and implementation. - Strong SQL, data modeling, and ETL/ELT experience; practical Python and dbt skills. - Knowledge of cloud platforms, data integration, pipeline design, database performance, testing, and data quality. - Ability to turn business requirements into robust architectures, explain tradeoffs clearly, and manage stakeholder relationships. - Experience providing technical direction or mentoring and handling multiple projects, ideally in consulting or an agency setting. - Strong written and spoken English; willingness to travel to client sites when required.

Nice to have - Experience with Snowflake, Hightouch, mParticle, Databricks, Braze, Amplitude, or GA4. - Relevant data architecture, cloud, customer data platform, or marketing technology certifications. - Familiarity with customer data privacy, consent, and security; experience with proposals, workshops, or technical presentations.
