About this role
Role overview Lead a Network Operations team through a major infrastructure modernization, transitioning from traditional data center networking toward a cloud-native architecture while preserving an extremely high uptime standard. The role blends strategic leadership with hands-on engineering across an AWS-based cloud network and physical Points of Presence hosted in colocation facilities, with a strong emphasis on automation and reliability. This is a backfill for an existing vacancy, remote within Ontario or British Columbia, Canada.
Responsibilities - Manage and develop a team of network and software engineers, building a culture grounded in automation, reliability, and continuous improvement. - Lead the transition from physical data centers to a cloud-native network architecture that scales with business growth. - Champion infrastructure-as-code using Terraform to reduce manual operations and accelerate delivery. - Own the strategic roadmap for right-sizing the physical Points of Presence footprint without compromising service reliability. - Design network solutions that are both secure and scalable, partnering across security, platform, and infrastructure teams. - Stay hands-on at the hardware level when needed, supporting incident resolution and architectural evolution.
Requirements - Senior leadership experience managing network operations or infrastructure engineering teams. - Deep technical background with AWS networking and physical data center or colocation environments. - Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices. - Track record of running mission-critical, low-latency networks with stringent uptime requirements. - Experience leading infrastructure modernization or migration programs. - Ability to collaborate across security, platform, and infrastructure disciplines to deliver unified outcomes.
Nice to have - Background in payments, financial services, or other regulated, high-availability industries. - Experience mentoring engineers on career development and performance management.
