Backend Engineer (Python and SQL)

Role overview Build and support backend services that power a digital platform, using Python and SQL to deliver application features and analytics data. The role combines microservice development, database work, API integration, testing, and troubleshooting, with collaboration across technical and business functions. It is offered as a long-term contractor position for someone working from home in Latin America.

Responsibilities - Design and implement server-side applications and maintain platform microservices in Python. - Write complex Trino SQL queries to collect and analyze data from multiple sources. - Design and optimize relational and non-relational databases. - Integrate APIs with partner teams and help ensure services work together reliably. - Produce reusable code, review changes, and create end-to-end integration tests. - Investigate backend defects and performance issues, and contribute to ongoing technical improvements.

Requirements - Two to four years of software development experience focused on backend engineering. - Proficiency in Python and strong SQL and database optimization skills. - Experience working with microservices and familiarity with REST API design. - Understanding of software development life cycles and Agile practices. - Strong troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. - Professional English proficiency and a relevant degree or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have - Graduate study in computer science or a related field. - Cloud experience or certification, such as AWS or Google Cloud. - Familiarity with Docker, Kafka or similar messaging systems, caching, performance profiling, or machine learning frameworks.
