Staff Quality Engineer - Mobile

Role overview This is a senior, automation-first quality engineering position focused on a high-traffic consumer mobile app built in React Native and TypeScript, distributed to both iOS and Android. The role partners closely with software engineers, product, and design to raise release cadence without sacrificing reliability, while shaping how AI-assisted tooling is applied across the testing lifecycle.

Responsibilities - Define and evolve a pragmatic mobile test pyramid, deciding where end-to-end coverage earns its weight and where unit or component layers are the better home. - Set the bar for "ready to ship" on mobile and hold the line against regressions as the customer base grows. - Rotate across product teams for short engagements to raise quality practices, including performance benchmarks that catch regressions in critical paths. - Build AI-driven agents that exploratory-test changes before they reach production, and use AI tools daily to accelerate test authoring, cluster failures, and surface coverage gaps. - Strengthen end-to-end automation by improving test environments and data fixtures, driving flakiness toward zero and shortening diagnosis time. - Shape CI/CD pipelines and Service Level Objectives that codify reliability contracts with stakeholders.

Requirements - 5+ years in quality engineering or test automation, with a demonstrable record of keeping automated suites stable rather than allowing them to rot. - Hands-on experience with Maestro or Detox for end-to-end mobile testing. - Strong coding background writing test frameworks, helper scripts, and CI pipelines, with a clear sense of what a healthy test codebase looks like. - Track record of working across multiple engineering teams with competing priorities, driving quality improvements without heavy process overhead. - Experience with API and contract testing, including a considered point of view on test data and environment strategy. - History of defining and using Service Level Objectives to drive measurable reliability gains. - A native, AI-assisted working style, with examples of where AI meaningfully changed the workflow and where it was deliberately kept out.
