Role overview
Build production software and data systems for a critical initiative supporting a major banking client, going well beyond traditional ETL pipelines. The team focuses on cloud-native, modern architecture for migrating and transforming enterprise-scale data, with an emphasis on Python-driven application development. This is a back-end engineering role with a data focus, partnering across consulting, data platform, and analytics functions in a collaborative client-facing environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop application components in Python for data-intensive, cloud-native systems. - Build and maintain data pipelines and platforms on AWS, including batch and stream processing, orchestration, and data movement at enterprise scale. - Model and query data in relational stores such as PostgreSQL, and work with cloud data platforms like Databricks and Snowflake to analyze large datasets. - Architect real-time, event-driven data streams using Kafka or similar tools, focusing on performance, reliability, and consistency. - Implement data quality controls, governance, and compliance practices aligned with enterprise standards. - Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and architecture discussions; collaborate with cross-functional team members and client stakeholders.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in application development with strong Python programming skills. - 4+ years of hands-on experience with AWS cloud services. - 4+ years working with relational databases, including PostgreSQL, and writing complex SQL queries. - Experience with data migration activities in cloud environments, focusing on enterprise-scale data movement and transformation. - Experience with cloud data platforms such as Databricks and Snowflake, plus distributed data processing using Apache Spark, Kafka, or AWS Kinesis. - Experience with workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow or similar, and familiarity with large-scale cloud data warehousing and performance optimization. - Bachelor's degree required; in lieu of a degree, three years of specialized training or progressively responsible technology work experience per missing year of college.
Nice to have
- Java development experience. - Experience with AWS Glue or other AWS data integration services. - Proficiency with UNIX/Linux environments and basic shell scripting. - Prior consulting experience or aptitude for client-facing collaborative environments.
