Remote job
Lead Tech SRE
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead the technical direction and hands-on operation of a managed cloud platform built from isolated customer environments. The platform is in beta, with production workloads already running, and needs a reliable path to general availability. You’ll guide a three-person SRE team while spending a substantial part of your time building infrastructure, reviewing designs, and responding to incidents.
Responsibilities
- Define the cloud architecture, infrastructure standards, and roadmap for moving from beta to general availability. - Write design documents and set reliability targets, weighing customer isolation, operating complexity, and cost. - Guide a small SRE team: break work into deliverable tasks, review changes, and unblock execution. - Automate customer environment provisioning, upgrades, scaling, backups, migrations, and retirement. - Build safe release and rollback processes across customer environments, with monitoring for metrics, logs, traces, and alerts. - Lead on-call practices, incident reviews, capacity planning, cost management, and infrastructure security improvements.
Requirements
- At least eight years in SRE, platform, or infrastructure engineering, including two or more years setting a team’s technical direction. - Deep production experience operating Kubernetes clusters, including upgrades, networking, sizing, and configuration consistency. - Strong Google Cloud expertise, especially GKE, identity and access management, networking, and managed data services. - Advanced Terraform skills, including designing reusable modules and state layouts for many similar customer environments. - Demonstrated ability to write architecture plans, explain trade-offs, and coordinate delivery across a team. - Experience with on-call operations, incident reviews, and running SaaS services with meaningful reliability targets; fluent English and comfortable working remotely.
Nice to have
- Experience isolating workloads that run user-provided code or operating per-customer infrastructure fleets. - Google Cloud cost attribution and optimization, or infrastructure work supporting SOC 2 or ISO 27001 audits. - Familiarity with workflow orchestration systems or production JVM workloads.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first work, with access to coworking spaces in multiple locations. - Medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus home-office equipment.
