About this role

Role overview

A remote-first independent gaming studio is hiring a Product Analytics Engineer to deepen understanding of players and improve decisions across games, marketing, and live operations. The position is hands-on, working across product, engineering, design, and LiveOps, and is explicitly an AI-first role: AI tools are central to daily work rather than the product itself. Candidates must reside in British Columbia and be legally eligible to work in Canada. The studio operates small live-service titles with mature economies, so analysis directly shapes player experience and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

- Analyze player behaviour and product changes across onboarding, retention, monetization, progression, LiveOps, and economy health. - Run funnel, cohort, and segmentation deep-dives to surface friction, drop-offs, and spending patterns, then translate ambiguous questions into structured findings and recommendations. - Build, maintain, and optimize ETL pipelines on an AWS-based stack, writing cost- and performance-aware SQL to expose clean analytical views. - QA telemetry and pipelines proactively, flagging broken tracking, inconsistent definitions, or anomalous event volumes, and partner with product, engineering, and design to define tracking before launches. - Support end-to-end A/B test design, success-metric definition, and post-experiment analysis. - Use modern AI development tools to accelerate SQL and Python work, automate workflows, build reusable notebooks, and continuously experiment with new AI capabilities.

Requirements

- Three or more years in data, product, or business analytics, analytics engineering, data science, or a closely related role. - Strong SQL skills including window functions and DDL, plus Python for analysis, validation, scripting, and automation. - Hands-on experience with a cloud analytics environment such as AWS Athena, BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, or Redshift, and comfort working with S3-style data lakes, views, and analytical tables. - Strong analytical thinking with the ability to break vague questions into clear steps and explain results in plain language tied to product or business decisions. - Demonstrated, hands-on use of AI tools for SQL or Python development, analysis, research, or automation, with independent quality validation. - Genuine interest in games, player behaviour, monetization, engagement systems, and live-service products, plus high ownership and comfort working in a small remote team.

Nice to have

- Experience with AWS Athena, S3, Glue Data Catalog, Apache Iceberg, or similar lakehouse tooling. - Analytics experience for free-to-play mobile games or consumer apps, including experimentation, user acquisition, and marketing performance. - Familiarity with QuickSight, Tableau, Looker, Power BI, or comparable BI platforms. - Comfort with Git, code review, and documentation in a technical team setting.

Benefits and work setup

- Listed pay range of CAD $60,000–$85,000, with market-researched, competitive wages. - Uncapped profit-share program, plus health, dental, and vision benefits. - Three weeks of vacation to start, a paid December holiday shutdown, and twelve paid Care Days per year. - Annual Continuous Improvement allowance for professional or personal development. - Remote-first workplace with a small number of in-person gatherings each year (roughly two to six). - Opportunity to influence decisions directly with leadership rather than through layered processes, working on titles with large player bases.
