Role overview
This remote position (open to candidates in the U.S., Canada, or select South American countries) is part of a data engineering team that builds and maintains scalable pipelines supporting analytics, ETL, and machine-learning-adjacent workflows. The engineer acts primarily as a software engineer with a data specialty, expected to bring strong opinions on code quality, automation, and architecture. Success requires fluency in Python and SQL, comfort designing asynchronous systems, and the communication skills to bridge technical and non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities
- Partner with product managers, data analysts, and machine learning engineers to develop pipelines and ETL tasks that surface insights - Translate product requirements into actionable project plans, either executing personally or coordinating peers - Define data architecture processes and standards that can be scheduled, automated, and replicated across teams - Collaborate with data leadership to identify and push forward meaningful projects across the commercial organization - Apply engineering best practices including automated testing and design patterns to maintainable pipeline code
Requirements
- At least 5 years of industry experience as a data engineer or comparable role - Demonstrated high code quality and a track record of guiding other engineers - Expertise in Python and fluency in SQL, with hands-on experience building maintainable data pipelines in both - Experience designing full data pipelines end-to-end, from technology selection through build, testing, and rollout - Comfort with asynchronous systems including APIs, streaming, and multithreading, plus the monitoring practices that keep them healthy - Working knowledge of how machine learning and AI applications are deployed and monitored, and motivation to advance data-driven initiatives - Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
