About this role
Role overview
Build and guide the scientific software and computing platform used by engineers and researchers to model and analyze complex energy systems. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role spanning Python and C++ development, reproducible software delivery, and high-performance computing, with responsibility for setting maintainable engineering practices and helping colleagues grow.
Responsibilities - Design, implement, test, and maintain scientific software, including numerical methods and computational models. - Set architecture for engineering tools, and measure and improve performance when requirements call for it. - Build automated testing and release pipelines, reproducible packaging for Python and C++, and versioned artifact delivery. - Maintain container workflows and support scientific computing on clusters, including scheduling, MPI, and GPU use. - Make software quality and delivery evidence reproducible through automated controls and records. - Review designs and code, mentor engineers, document shared practices, and help remove single-person dependencies.
Requirements - A relevant technical degree or equivalent education and practical experience. - At least five years of relevant software engineering experience, including technically complex scientific, engineering, or computational work. - Strong development experience in both Python and C++, including quantitative or numerical algorithms. - Experience defining software architecture, interfaces, and maintainable designs. - Familiarity with automated unit and integration testing, Git, Linux, Bash, and SSH. - Experience mentoring and reviewing work, communicating clearly, and building software others can operate and extend.
Nice to have Further qualifications include graduate study in a relevant technical discipline and experience with scientific build systems, packaging, containers, or high-performance computing.
