Responsibilities

- Design and ship web applications and AI systems that combine LLMs, computer vision, and multimodal models to address loss prevention, item verification, and catalog management challenges - Architect data pipelines and reverse-ETL flows that join on-cart computer vision signals with catalog, POS, real-time location, and inventory data to automatically reconcile item discrepancies - Standardize API contracts for pricing, coupons, and loyalty integrations so new retailers can plug in faster - Lead the design of backend services and distributed infrastructure capable of handling high-volume traffic with caching, retry logic, and asynchronous workflows - Build internal frameworks, portals, and tooling for automated integration testing, unified logging, and query-based debugging to support continuous retailer rollouts - Drive cross-functional initiatives that unify engineering practices and improve the customer shopping experience

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or a foreign equivalent - 5 years of professional experience in backend or full-stack engineering roles - 5 years of hands-on work with Java, Ruby, Kotlin, or comparable backend languages - 5 years of hands-on work with TypeScript, React, Next.js, or comparable frontend frameworks - 5 years of experience building AI systems using LLMs, computer vision, and multimodal techniques - 5 years of experience designing resilient backend systems, distributed infrastructure, and asynchronous workflows using workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal or similar - 5 years of experience with backend APIs, real-time data pipelines and ETL systems, and production monitoring and observability tools

Nice to have

- Background leading architectural reviews or setting technical direction across teams - Familiarity with retail systems such as POS, pricing, coupons, or loyalty platforms - Experience building developer tooling and integration testing frameworks
