Role overview A senior engineering role focused on building distributed financial infrastructure that connects restaurants, diners, and capital partners through real-time transactions and operational workflows. The position is hands-on and reports to the Director of Engineering, emphasizing an AI-first development culture in a fast-paced startup setting.
Responsibilities - Design and operate scalable distributed systems that handle real-world load, failure scenarios, and consistency requirements for financial transactions and real-time events - Architect services that protect sensitive financial data and maintain strong integrity across workflows - Identify opportunities to apply modern AI tooling to accelerate development, automate workflows, and enable new product capabilities - Build observability, monitoring, and recovery features into mission-critical production systems, including on-call participation - Debug complex production issues across distributed services and improve performance and reliability - Partner with product, business, and engineering peers to translate customer needs into scalable technical solutions and mentor other engineers
Requirements - 8+ years of experience building and operating production systems - Strong background in distributed systems design - Proficiency with at least one major web framework such as Rails, Django, Express, or Fastify - Deep database knowledge including indexing, query optimization, and transactional integrity - Experience designing highly available systems and implementing authentication, authorization, and secure APIs
Nice to have - Background scaling systems through rapid growth periods - Experience in payments, financial transactions, or other regulated environments - Familiarity with distributed patterns such as retries, circuit breakers, and event-driven workflows - Hands-on work with large Rails applications - Experience integrating AI tools into engineering workflows or shipping AI-powered features
