Field Service Engineer 2 - Atlanta, GA OR Birmingham, AL

Role overview Provide on-site technical service for complex laboratory instruments, keeping customer systems operational through installation, upgrades, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair. The role combines independent field work with customer communication, service coordination, and support for other engineers. The position is based in Atlanta, Georgia, or Birmingham, Alabama.

Responsibilities - Install, upgrade, maintain, and repair instruments; run validation checks after service work. - Diagnose complex issues, monitor equipment health, and prioritize work to limit downtime. - Coordinate service cases, keep records and technical documentation current, and arrange remote instrument access where needed. - Review failure data, report performance and downtime to customer sites, and recommend steps to improve reliability. - Escalate difficult repairs and coordinate with product support and engineering teams on ongoing product issues. - Help other field engineers troubleshoot and develop their skills; maintain appropriate service-parts inventory.

Requirements - A bachelor’s degree and at least two years of related experience, an advanced degree, or equivalent work experience; typically two to six years of relevant service experience. - Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. - Clear written and verbal communication, plus effective planning, scheduling, and task prioritization. - Knowledge of biotechnology or biomedical environments, or applicable military experience. - Familiarity with optical alignment, robotics, electrical and mechanical systems, computer hardware, Windows, and networking.
