Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead quality assurance for a communications billing platform where usage must be accurately rated, taxed, prorated, reconciled, invoiced, and defended with documented evidence. The position emphasizes manual and analytical testing leadership: setting standards, controlling requirements intake, mentoring QA engineers, and deciding where automation creates the greatest quality and financial value.
Responsibilities
- Own the billing test strategy across rating, mediation, invoicing, taxation, payments, credits, adjustments, collections, and reseller billing structures. - Design coverage for month-end processing, timezone and cutoff boundaries, reruns, partial failures, and retry safety. - Reconcile call-detail volumes with invoiced amounts, quantify discrepancies, and trace defects to rating, mediation, switch-side, or related causes. - Enforce testable acceptance criteria before work enters a sprint and maintain requirement-to-test traceability. - Direct the automation roadmap by prioritizing high-value coverage, reviewing suites, and evaluating expected return on effort. - Establish quality metrics such as escaped defects, coverage, defect density, and release readiness; mentor QA engineers and escalate evidence-based risks.
Requirements
- At least eight years of QA experience, including production billing, rating, payments, or comparable financial transaction systems. - Strong knowledge of usage and subscription billing, including rate structures, increments, minimums, proration, discounts, refunds, credits, adjustments, and collections. - Experience validating invoice generation, usage details, line totals, credit memos, and payment-related outcomes. - Advanced SQL skills, including joins, aggregations, and window functions, for independent usage-to-invoice reconciliation. - Deep understanding of decimal precision, rounding modes, and how line-level versus invoice-level calculations create financial discrepancies. - Proven QA leadership or mentoring experience, formal test management practice, Jira familiarity, and professional English with US Eastern-hour overlap.
Nice to have
- SIP/VoIP billing knowledge, Python/pytest and Playwright review experience, REST API testing, payment gateway testing, tax-engine validation, multi-currency and foreign-exchange handling, and familiarity with Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote B2B engagement with long-term growth, annual performance review, hardware support, professional development funding, English classes, and referral incentives.
