Engineering Manager - Global Football & Rugby
Job details
About this role
Role overview Lead two engineering squads building the data infrastructure layer that powers flagship analytics products for global football and rugby. The role sits at the intersection of platform engineering and product delivery, partnering with senior product managers and QA to ship features in a fast-paced environment while shaping how downstream teams build.
Responsibilities - Manage approximately eight engineers across two squads, focusing on growth, wellness, and a high-performing team culture. - Stay hands-on with architecture and system design to ensure scalable, high-quality software. - Partner with product and QA to negotiate trade-offs and ship new features reliably. - Champion an AI-first engineering mindset and encourage adoption of AI tools and modern practices. - Enable other squads to move faster by building reusable platform capabilities, measuring success by migrations and unlocked capabilities.
Requirements - 3+ years of engineering management experience, ideally paired with a background as an individual contributor or tech lead on platform, API, or data infrastructure teams. - Deep experience designing and evolving APIs for multiple internal or external customers. - Strong technical grounding with C#, TypeScript, AWS, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, and comfort across data-lake patterns. - Ability to build immediate trust with engineers through architectural credibility. - Genuine enthusiasm for AI-augmented engineering as a capability shift rather than a productivity add-on.
Nice to have - Experience with languages or tools beyond the core stack. - An interest in football analytics and elite-club sports products.
Benefits and work setup - Base salary range of £76,000–£127,000 GBP, with typical offers near the middle and eligibility for a long-term incentive award. - Flexible vacation above statutory leave, company-wide holidays, meeting-free days, and remote options. - Open culture with autonomy from day one, plus substantial professional development resources. - Medical and retirement benefits depending on location, employee resource groups, and an Employee Assistance Program for wellbeing support. - Considering candidates within commuting distance of London offices and remote candidates across the U.K.
