Remote job
Software Engineer, API Platform
Job details
About this role
Role overview Help build the internal API layer that connects an autonomous penetration-testing platform's services and powers the interfaces customers and integrations rely on. As a Software Engineer on the API Platform team, you will own gateway behaviour, API contracts, and shared platform capabilities, directly shaping the reliability, latency, and developer experience of a Kubernetes-based service mesh in a fully remote cybersecurity company.
Responsibilities - Implement and maintain API endpoints, middleware, and platform services in Go. - Build and evolve the API gateway layer, including routing, authentication, rate limiting, and request and response shaping. - Write and maintain API contracts (OpenAPI and gRPC definitions) and communicate breaking changes to internal consumers. - Contribute to service reliability through monitoring, alerting, SLA tracking, and incident response for platform APIs. - Write clear, reviewable code with tests that cover happy paths and failure modes. - Collaborate with Data Ingestion, Integrations Platform, and Client Platform teams that consume the APIs you build.
Requirements - 2+ years of professional software engineering experience building production backend services. - Proficiency in Go, or strong motivation to ramp quickly given that Go is the team's primary language. - Solid understanding of REST API design principles and HTTP semantics; gRPC experience is a plus. - Ability to reason about service reliability, including latency, error rates, retry behaviour, and circuit breaking. - Comfort working in Kubernetes-based environments, deploying and debugging services and understanding how they interact. - Experience with containerised development workflows using Docker. - Familiarity with API authentication patterns such as OAuth 2.0, API keys, and JWT. - Clear, reviewable coding style with meaningful tests, plus comfort working asynchronously across a distributed team.
Nice to have - Experience with API gateway technologies such as Kong, Envoy, NGINX, or cloud-native equivalents. - Exposure to service mesh architectures like Istio or Linkerd. - Background in cybersecurity or building APIs consumed by security tools. - Experience with gRPC and protobuf-defined service contracts.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote position with up to 5% travel expected. - Equity package in the form of stock options for full-time employees. - Health, vision, and dental insurance for employees and their families. - Flexible vacation policy and generous parental leave. - Inclusive culture with growth opportunities in a fast-growing cybersecurity organisation.
