Role overview
A senior backend engineering role on a Middleware team focused on building a fault-resilient, highly available platform that powers customer-facing security features. The work spans public REST APIs, large-scale data pipelines, and configuration management across a fleet of services, with a strong emphasis on reliability and type-first design. The position is remote within the United States, with a preference for candidates based in the Seattle, WA area.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services in Go and Python that power the platform and its integrations. - Take part in agile ceremonies, lead code reviews, and contribute to technical strategy discussions across the team. - Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers while fostering a culture of curiosity and collaborative problem solving. - Address technical debt proactively and continually improve the codebase, tooling, and underlying infrastructure stack. - Build customer-facing features that enable security and engineering teams to investigate and respond to threats. - Support database scalability efforts, data migrations, and high-throughput pipeline work across the service fleet.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. - 7+ years of professional backend development experience. - Strong proficiency in Go, Python, or an equivalent programming language. - Hands-on experience with API development along with PostgreSQL design or SQL query performance optimization. - Background building and scaling distributed, highly available systems. - Self-starter mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and a track record of technical ownership, plus effective communication in fast-paced agile environments.
Nice to have
- Experience with Django, FastAPI, or another Python web framework. - Familiarity with cloud services on AWS or Azure (EKS, RDS, S3, SQS, EC2, IAM, Lambdas). - Working knowledge of TypeScript and React, or Infrastructure-as-Code tooling such as Terraform.
