Remote job
Senior Auth Engineer — Users & Auth - Remote First
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior Auth Engineer role operating remotely to own the end-to-end identity, authentication, and authorization layer of a growing payments platform. The position centers on architecting the user lifecycle, integrating Auth0 across frontend and backend services, and serving as the engineering organization's go-to authority on identity and access — with security treated as a first-class product concern rather than a checklist.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the identity and access layer that platform applications rely on, ensuring it works end-to-end and scales with the product, in close partnership with the team's tech lead. - Own authentication and authorization end-to-end, including architecture, implementation, and Auth0 integration across both frontend and backend. - Design, harden, and continuously improve auth flows and the full user lifecycle. - Act as the reference point for the rest of engineering on identity and access — unblocking other teams on hard auth problems. - Set and hold the security and quality bar on identity-critical paths through code reviews and design reviews. - Partner with the tech lead and product on the feasibility of auth-heavy initiatives, and identify where AI tooling can accelerate work that would otherwise take months.
Requirements
- 4+ years of software engineering experience with solid production execution. - 2+ years of hands-on experience implementing authentication and authorization on a modern identity platform — Auth0 experience preferred, comparable platforms acceptable; IAM depth is a strong plus. - Full-stack engineering strength with a backend lean; primary backend stack is Java and Spring, frontend is React (depth is a plus, but strong fundamentals and ramp speed matter more than years in any single stack). - Deep understanding of security best practices for web applications and secure software design across distributed architectures. - High autonomy, proactivity, and ownership mindset — comfortable driving initiatives to completion without waiting for direction. - Genuine interest in AI, with active experimentation using AI tools in day-to-day work and an eagerness to apply them to engineering practice. - English proficiency for cross-region technical collaboration.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first role with periodic in-person team ramps, events, and customer visits. - Competitive salary, stock options (ESOP) from day one, and an annual learning budget.
