Principal Software Engineer, Database Platform

Role overview

Set technical direction for a database platform that stores and serves large volumes of security assessment data across a multi-tenant product. As a senior individual contributor, you will own major architecture decisions while remaining hands-on with code and design work. The role calls for dependable data isolation and correctness, safe schema evolution, and growth without a matching increase in operational burden.

Responsibilities

- Define the database platform roadmap with engineering leadership and partner teams. - Lead architecture decisions for schema design, partitioning, migrations, and scaling, and document the shared technical approach. - Establish strong PostgreSQL practices for query tuning, indexing, partitioning, replication, and connection pooling. - Guide the evolution of graph-shaped data representing discovered assets and their relationships across security assessments. - Review schema changes and develop standards and tooling for safe, reversible, zero-downtime migrations. - Mentor engineers through code and design reviews and collaborate across teams on data contracts, performance expectations, and architectural guardrails.

Requirements

- Extensive, production-proven PostgreSQL expertise, including query planning, advanced indexes, partitioning, logical replication, vacuuming at scale, and connection pool tuning. - Experience designing multi-tenant databases at scale, with strong attention to tenant isolation and data correctness. - Ability to lead architecture and establish database standards across teams without direct reporting authority. - Experience building engineering practices for schema reviews, migration safety, and query performance. - A record of developing other engineers through reviews, pairing, and technical guidance. - Willingness to contribute directly through implementation and design documentation in a senior individual contributor role.

Nice to have

- Experience with cybersecurity data models, time-series databases, analytical workloads, or data platform compliance requirements. - Contributions to database tooling or the PostgreSQL ecosystem.
