Forward Deployed Architect
Job details
About this role
Role overview This role sits at the intersection of marketing strategy and data architecture, embedded with a small number of large enterprise customers. The architect owns the technical vision for each engagement, using AI-driven agents as leverage to profile customer data, design activation-ready schemas, and ship working configurations. It is a founding seat on a newly built team, with significant influence over the playbooks, standards, and engagement model that future hires will inherit.
Responsibilities - Run discovery with marketing and data stakeholders, translating broad goals like "better targeting" into specific activation use cases with measurable success criteria. - Architect the target-state data model, including schemas, identity matching rules, and grain decisions (person, household, device) that close gaps in the customer's warehouse. - Direct AI agents that profile warehouses, propose models, and generate transformations, then review, rewrite, and own the final SQL and model performance. - Define and defend the metric that proves the engagement worked, agreeing it with the customer up front and presenting results to senior leaders. - Stay on as the named architect post-handoff, producing reusable reference architectures and feeding product gaps back to internal teams. - Encode the semantic layer, metric definitions, and business logic that downstream agents and end users rely on for plain-language answers.
Requirements - 5+ years in a customer-facing technical role such as analytics engineering, solutions architecture, forward-deployed engineering, data consulting, or in-house marketing data work at a large brand. - Deep SQL fluency on at least one of Snowflake, Databricks, or BigQuery, with attention to query performance and warehouse cost. - Demonstrated ability to drive discovery and alignment across dozens of stakeholders with competing priorities in messy engagements. - Comfort directing AI agents as the default workflow, scrutinizing every line before it ships rather than authoring everything by hand. - Strong written and verbal communication for defending technical decisions to senior customer leaders.
Nice to have - Experience with transformation tooling like dbt or SQLMesh and a git-native, PR-driven workflow. - Prior work in identity resolution, customer data platforms, or master data management.
Benefits and work setup - Location-independent remote-first policy with salary range of $175,000 to $225,000 USD plus meaningful equity.
