Job details
About this role
Role overview Engineering Manager for a Perception and Machine Learning team building autonomy software for collaborative robotic systems operating across sea, air, and land. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, taking perception capabilities from research through to fielded, reliable products in contested, real-world environments.
Responsibilities - Lead, manage, and develop a team of perception, machine learning, sensor fusion, and software engineers. - Own team planning, prioritization, and delivery against the Perception & ML roadmap. - Partner with senior technical contributors to guide architecture across computer vision, sensor fusion, tracking, detection, classification, and segmentation. - Oversee model training, evaluation, data curation, validation, and deployment workflows. - Ensure perception capabilities are designed for real-world performance, reliability, compute constraints, and field readiness. - Translate customer, mission, and product requirements into clear engineering priorities. - Use field data, testing results, and operator feedback to prioritize improvements and address performance gaps. - Establish engineering practices for design reviews, code reviews, testing, model evaluation, and release readiness. - Identify execution risks, dependencies, resource constraints, and technical tradeoffs and communicate them clearly to engineering leadership. - Recruit, interview, onboard, and retain high-performing engineers while fostering a culture of technical excellence and ownership.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. - 7+ years of relevant engineering experience in perception, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, autonomy, or sensor fusion. - 2+ years of direct people-management experience in a highly technical engineering environment. - Strong technical understanding of modern perception systems, including vision, sensor fusion, tracking, detection, classification, or ML-based scene understanding. - Experience taking ML or perception capabilities from development through testing and deployment in real-world systems. - Demonstrated ability to manage engineering priorities, technical roadmaps, dependencies, and delivery across multiple initiatives. - Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have - Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Vision, or a related field. - Prior experience managing a Perception, ML, Robotics, or Autonomy engineering team. - Background in robotics, autonomous vehicles, defense technology, aerospace, or maritime systems. - Experience with multimodal sensor systems such as cameras, EO/IR, radar, LiDAR, AIS, GPS/INS, or IMU. - Familiarity with PyTorch, TensorRT, ONNX, CUDA, MLflow, Docker, Kubernetes, NVIDIA Jetson, or similar ML and deployment tooling. - Experience with simulation, synthetic data, annotation workflows, or large-scale perception datasets. - Experience supporting government or DoD programs; active or prior security clearance a plus.
Benefits and work setup - 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their families, plus employer-paid life insurance. - 401(k) with company match and an equity package. - Unlimited PTO with a two-week enforced minimum, and 16 weeks of paid parental leave. - Work-from-home stipend, monthly health and wellness stipend, and Global Entry reimbursement.
