Senior Engineer - Database Infrastructure

Role overview Own the reliability, performance, and operational practices for databases that support a high-volume digital platform. The work spans PostgreSQL, MySQL, and ClickHouse, with opportunities to expand into CockroachDB, and follows database issues into application code and platform architecture when needed. The team also uses AI coding agents for investigation and tooling, with engineers responsible for checking outputs against production evidence.

Responsibilities - Operate PostgreSQL and MySQL on managed cloud databases, including replication, failover, backups, recovery, and upgrades. - Run ClickHouse for operational and analytical workloads, maintaining table design, partitioning, replication, and ingestion paths. - Investigate slow queries, lock contention, and replication delays; trace root causes through plans, statistics, schemas, or application code. - Assess risks in schema changes and review database designs with application teams before release. - Build database observability, participate in on-call, lead incident reviews, and document corrective actions. - Create Python or Go tools and automate provisioning or recovery with infrastructure-as-code; maintain access controls and encryption.

Requirements - 5+ years operating production relational databases in a DBA, database reliability, or data platform role. - Deep production experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL, or deep expertise in one plus substantial working experience in the other. - Strong understanding of database internals, query planning, write-ahead logging, replication, and failover tradeoffs. - Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and the ability to learn a distributed SQL database. - Python or Go skills, plus enough Java to debug application code. - Experience with Linux, AWS, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring tools, and on-call work; clear technical communication.

Nice to have - Experience with ClickHouse, CockroachDB, or security controls for regulated systems. - Hands-on use of AI coding agents with a habit of validating their output.
