Role overview
Lead high-complexity technical engagements as a Staff Field Engineer supporting strategic customer opportunities and presales teams. The role combines solution architecture, observability expertise, technical storytelling, enablement, demonstration infrastructure, product feedback, and mentorship. You will operate with substantial autonomy, serve as a recognized subject-matter expert, and help scale the effectiveness of field and solution engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Advise on strategic deals and customer engagements, resolving complex technical challenges alongside solution engineers and observability specialists. - Develop reference architectures, compelling value-based technical narratives, demonstrations, workshops, and proof-of-value experiences. - Own the creation and maintenance of training materials such as workshops, how-to content, demo scripts, documentation, blogs, and white papers. - Architect and operate reliable, secure production environments that support demos, workshops, and proof-of-value infrastructure at scale. - Influence product planning by surfacing customer needs, enablement gaps, adoption barriers, and investment priorities. - Present at marketing events and mentor senior field engineers, solution engineers, and other technical team members.
Requirements
- At least eight years of relevant technical experience, including two or more years in a senior field engineering role or equivalent. - Deep expertise in at least one observability or platform domain, with broad familiarity across related technologies. - Demonstrated ability to support complex presales opportunities, create technical content, and communicate business value through technical solutions. - Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining reliable demonstration or production environments. - Strong presentation, writing, collaboration, and customer-facing communication skills. - Ability to work independently on strategic engagements and make sound technical decisions with limited supervision.
Nice to have
- Experience influencing product direction or participating in product planning cycles. - Background with open-source technologies, cloud platforms, telemetry, or observability architectures. - Experience mentoring technical professionals and representing products at conferences, webinars, panels, or other industry events.
