Staff Backend Engineer - Databases - Analytics | Germany | Remote

Role overview A remote Staff Backend Engineer position focused on building the foundational services for an AI-native data intelligence platform that gives AI agents reliable, governed access to enterprise context. The role sits on an early-stage, high-autonomy team tasked with turning a prototype into a production-grade, multi-tenant SaaS offering.

Responsibilities - Design, implement, and operate core backend services for context ingestion, indexing, retrieval orchestration, APIs, source configuration, and system administration. - Build a scalable multi-tenant foundation covering tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and clean service boundaries. - Create APIs and service interfaces that let AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal apps retrieve context along with provenance, confidence signals, and warnings. - Partner with product and infrastructure colleagues to balance rapid experimentation against long-term reliability as the system matures. - Instrument services with the observability needed to safely operate production workloads.

Requirements - Significant backend engineering experience building distributed, production-grade systems. - Strong proficiency with Go and modern backend service architectures. - Comfort working through ambiguity and making pragmatic architectural decisions on an early-stage team. - Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure.

Nice to have - Background in databases, analytics, or data infrastructure systems. - Familiarity with AI agent workflows and retrieval patterns such as RAG.
