Role overview A mid-level backend engineering position on a Loyalty Engineering team that powers in-app loyalty experiences during high-profile live events. The role centers on designing, building, testing, and maintaining scalable services and APIs that support time-sensitive user-facing features, with engineers expected to take ownership of outcomes in an environment where priorities shift with seasonal demand.
Responsibilities - Design, develop, test, document, and deploy backend services and APIs that drive loyalty experiences - Participate in an on-call rotation and investigate production issues when they arise - Partner with engineers, product managers, and adjacent stakeholders to ship features and enhancements - Contribute to code reviews and team discussions to maintain code quality and long-term maintainability - Take part in sprint planning, architectural reviews, and ongoing continuous-improvement initiatives - Develop working familiarity with the surrounding platform architecture and key customer use cases
Requirements - At least three years of professional industry experience in fast-paced or high-growth environments - Proficiency building backend systems with Java, ideally using the Spring Framework or a comparable stack - Solid grasp of RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and object-oriented programming - Comfort working in production environments and resolving issues in real time, with strong debugging instincts - Familiarity with relational or NoSQL databases and foundational data modeling concepts - Clear communication skills and a collaborative, coachable working style, plus comfort using AI-assisted development tools
Nice to have - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms (AWS preferred), and modern DevOps practices - Interest in scaling systems, distributed architectures, and performance optimization - Experience with observability tooling such as Datadog or similar platforms - Background in startup-like or seasonal-priority environments where decisions are made quickly
Benefits and work setup Some interview or onboarding steps may include an in-person component; full details are confirmed based on role and location. The posted salary range is $108,000–$135,000 USD, with compensation varying by geography, and eligibility for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay for full-time employees. A benefits program is available to full-time staff.
